Every winter Sandhill Cranes fly into southeastern Arizona from as far away as southeast Asia and Siberia to roost in the Sulphur Springs Valley. There are 15,000 to 20,000 birds at this location.
They weigh about 14 pounds and stand four feet tall. Adult birds sport a red cap on
their heads. In the wild they will live usually 15 years. They are considered a game
bird and have a hunting season.
